big kid craft

Now that Big Owlet is four and a half (she tells everyone that, its big), she has become craft mad. Its our thing. We do something crafty together everyday. If she's too tired to be creative, she likes to watch me do something crafty and we pretend its like the good 'ole days when we had a tv and she watched playschool. Lately Little Owlet has been having naps and we've been using the time for a bit of big kid craft. Just the two of us. Its a really lovely part of our week. Here are two things we made last week.

A finger puppet that looks like a matryoshka doll. We shared the sewing and Big Owlet glued the face and dress on. She will need a friend, so maybe thats something for this week...

A dreamcatcher... well sort of. We bent some pipecleaners in her favorite colours and found some autumn leaves and flowers and sparkly bits to weave though. Its hanging over her bed now and reminds her of the lovely day we spent sitting on the grass making it.

more green...

This is that dress I made for Little Owlet for Christmas. Big Owlet's is pink and red, of course! So very simple, but very extremely gorgeous too.

Favorite things

When I was younger I loved red. Red everything... but green was useful sometimes and it did go so well with my red hair...

Now I'm just a bit older, my firm favorite is most definately green. Perhaps its because its soothing and calm... Or it reminds me of the garden or something else... I got married in green, bad luck or not. I live in a green house and I'm finding my love of green things is creeping in all over the place, although I don't think I'll dye my hair green... Here are my new favorite green things collected around my birthday...

My newest favorite thing is this cake... mmm, so yummy and autumnal. Just the perfect way to use the neighbours apples

happy birthday to me...

oh so gooey evil!! Its possibly the best birthday ever when you are given cookbooks, teapots, pyjamas, jewellery and slippers and treated to beakfast in bed and dinner at the local chinese... lazy susans never go out of style...

easter eggy fun

We had a lovely relaxing easter holiday... cleaning up the garden, egg dyeing, chocolate making and hot cross buns. Its lots of fun now that the girls are older. So much more they understand and can get involved in. We had an easter tree made from a branch cut fom our poor old crab apple tree. Little Owlet loved decorating it. After all that, we needed some fresh air, so we went away for a couple of nights to hug tees and remember how lucky we are to live in such a beautiful part of the world...

Pyjama party

These are the pyjama pants I made for Audrey for Christmas. I stitched around the neck of a T-shirt too for the top and we've been chatting about adding some sort of embellishment... one day... I also made the girls some dresses a-la Auntie Cookie and used up most of that stash of pertty colours I had. The girls loved them and it was fun to make something again. I've been designing things on screen for so long I forgot how good it feels to have a product to hold at the end of the process. Creative times ahead!!

Back in the swing....

Has it been that long? Really??!!! I've had many things on the go and now Autumn is in full swing I shall start getting back to craftier things. I've started going to these lovely Sunday arvo gatherings called Crafternoon. They involve craft and chat and baking and cups of tea and all things lovely and creative. I managed to make a pincushion as most bloggers do at some stage. Its really made sewing so much more fun though!!
