We baked today. Some mama friends and I. We chopped and stirred too. We talked and talked and talked. About plans and problems. About birth and babies and schooling and unschooling. About families and friends. We fed ourselves and our owlets and went home with food for our families. Lots of food. Frittatas and slices and curries and pasta bakes... At least a week's worth of dinner and a few lunches too.
While we owned the kitchen, our owlets took over the rest of the house on this rainy day. They were Octonauts and painted their faces and the windows. They designed and drew and wrote. They learnt from each other. They built cubbies and Lego. And they played and played and played.
Tonight, when the house was finally quiet, full of sleeping owlets, and order was restored, Huz and I patted our full bellies, and we smiled as we toasted the mamas. We will eat food cooked by these mamas for the next week or two. We will think of them each time and the love they put in to feed their families. And we will feel part of their family too. And that is the magic of MamaBake. The magic of community. xx
